Fractions Worksheets — Grade 5 & 6Free Printable PDF · CBSE Class 5–6
CBSE Class 5 introduces fractions as a concept. Class 6 extends them to adding with unlike denominators. The jump between the two classes is where most children fall off — and what these worksheets are designed to bridge.
Two class levels — one skill gap
Class 5 introduces fractions.
Class 6 expects fluency with them.
The transition between these two years is where fractions go from a concrete concept to a procedural skill. Children who miss a single step — the common denominator, simplification, or mixed number conversion — fall behind and stay behind.
Simplification (Class 5)
Finding the HCF and dividing — reduces 12/18 to 2/3. Easy difficulty worksheets focus here, building the HCF skill alongside fraction intuition.
Unlike denominators (Class 6)
Finding a common denominator before adding or subtracting — the step most students skip or apply incorrectly. Medium worksheets target this specifically.
Mixed numbers (Class 5–6)
Converting between improper fractions (7/4) and mixed numbers (1¾) — a Class 5 concept that reappears throughout Class 6 operations. Hard worksheets include both forms in every question.

The step most students skip
Fraction simplification is often taught as a finishing step — 'reduce your answer'. But simplifying during the working process (before multiplying or after finding a common denominator) keeps numbers smaller and reduces arithmetic errors. Children who learn to simplify at every stage handle harder problems more easily than those who only simplify at the end.
