3 = Numerator — how many shaded parts you have
4 = Denominator — how many equal parts in total

How to Read a Fraction
Equal parts
A fraction only works if ALL parts are the SAME size.
Read bottom-up
Denominator (bottom) tells you the "type" of part. Numerator (top) tells you how many.
Part of a whole
¾ means: take something, cut it into 4 equal pieces, colour 3 of them.
Whole number
When numerator = denominator (e.g. 4/4), the fraction equals 1 whole.
